Valentine's Party Sign Up I am looking for 5 volunteers to donate a treat for our celebration -25 juice boxes or water bottles -1 desert (brownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc). (enough for 25 students) -2 healthy snacks -1 package paper plates If you are able to bring a treat, the morning of Friday, February 13th, please leave a comment below as to what you have selected from the list. Thanks! Good Afternoon Families,
As the snow continues to fall, please check in to see if your child has plastic bags to bring with him/her to school. We had many students today with wet clothes and a shortage of supplies for them to carry their materials home in. It will be very helpful for preserving homework and books in conjunction with their wet snow gear, at the end of the day. Thanks so much! Adrianne Broeker Greetings families, and welcome to our very own webpage!
This site will offer any and all updates, reminders, and links to learning. It will be a great space to become aware of our weekly goals, ask questions, and communicate! Here is an outline of next week's goals: Spelling Pretest: Our spelling pretest will take place on Monday, February 2nd. We will be tested on the words following the (VCCV: Vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel) pattern. Expect spelling lists to go home, Tuesday February 3rd. Reading: Our focus in reading this week will be recognizing story structure given an assigned reading. We will also compare and contrast similar themes and topics and patterns of events in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures. Guided reading groups will be assigned and students will have a new reading calendar to follow (assignments/pages and chapters listed). Writing: We completed our second personal narrative and now we are focusing on creating biographies. Students will present these biographies to the class to work on their speaking and listening skills, as well. The biographies will also enhance their research strategies as they use online resources to gather information, on their selected individual. We will also focus on using grade appropriate Greek and Latin roots as clues to the meaning of a word. Math: We will continue into this week working on finding equivalent fractions, as well as adding and subtracting fractions. It is a difficult concept for students to understand equal parts/denominators, when adding and subtracting, so please review their math boxes with them each night. Please also ensure they are keeping up with their math fact fluency (multiplication/ division) which is the fundamental of math at this age. Social Studies: We are ending a unit based upon Early Explorers of Wisconsin. We have talked about missionaries, mapmakers, traders, and Indians. We have studied the French and Indian War, and the relationship between the French and Indians. The test for this chapter will be on Wednesday, February 4th. Study guide will go home on Monday, February 2nd. Special Notes: Please make sure, if possible, your child brings a snack with them to school. We have a daily snack time at 10:00 a.m. to refuel and recharge our minds. Also, I will be sending home a log to track nightly xtramath activity and reading of 20 minutes. Students will be held accountable to fill out their log and get it signed (in accordance with their assignment notebook) each night. Dates to remember: February 13th: We will be holding a small Valentine's day party in the afternoon. I will post a sign up sheet, on this webpage, for treats/supplies on February 6th, 2015. Next spelling test will be held on Friday, February 13th. Students who are participating in the safety poster contest, keep working on your rough drafts at home! Deadline for the contest is February 26th, 2015. Due to our class working together and staying on task, our students have won a pajama party. The date has not been finalized, as I am waiting for temperatures to slightly increase. I will send out a few days notice, prior to the finalized date. |
